Understanding different types of Mobile Search
Search is the most commonly used and easily understood functionality in the mobile interface. There are 7 types of mobile search which can be used individually or in combination with each other to attain desired results.
1. Dynamic Search
It populates the search results as soon as the user begins to enter his/her query in the search box.
2. Explicit Search
This search is initiated once the user tap on the search button below their query or through pressing the ENTER key on the keyboard.
3. Auto-Complete Search
It’s the most commonly used Search type which is mostly used in combination with Explicit search to deliver better UX experience. As the name suggests , as the user begin to enter the query , it will throw the suggested auto-complete option to proceed further.
4. Recent & Saved Search
It’s most user friendly option especially in mobile where the user has wants to continue their search from where he/she left previously. Most commonly used in Travel apps where user has already done the sector search in the past and wants to complete their booking now.
5. Faceted Search
It’s a more evolved and complex form of search , mostly deployed in the ecommerce website where user has selected multiple filters to limit the scope of the search.
6. Scoped Search
It allows the user to mention the criteria before they begin their search. For instance , in YouTube , a user gets an option to select the category such as “Trending “, “ Recently Uploaded” ,etc. and then continue the search.
7. Search forms
Search forms are useful when the users’ search involves variety of data types to initiate the search. A simple search form can be used to collect all the data points and then throw the results.
