As a PM, it’s key to drive the whole ship towards the right direction & achieve product excellence. At times, the approach is get to things done & we are lured directly towards the solutions. Usually there is pressure from Business, Sales or Marketing team to act fast and deliver results. However, sprinting towards the solution without deep understanding of the problem is not the desired process to follow.

Here comes, Product Discovery to your rescue. It has broadly 2 parts :-

  1. Develop deep understanding of the customers.
  2. Building crucial products for the customers using Step 1.

It plays a vital role in assisting product teams to choose which features to prioritise & which one to put on the back burner for now.

7 steps to Product Discovery 🔎

  1. Amp up your customer empathy game by having a deep understanding of the needs of the customers.
  2. Develop a holistic picture of your customer by gathering information through different experts in the organization.
  3. Select the key problem & define success metrics for the same.
  4. Produce a complete range of probable solutions.
  5. Select one solution for a quick MVP.
  6. Work on building the MVP.
  7. Get feedback about your MVP by exposing it to end users. Based on the feedback — either drop it or go full blown.
